‘anonymous was a woman’ - Virginia Woolf
Our job is to tell HERstory from history.
Virginia Woolf said that everything attributed to ‘anonymous’ was actually written by a woman. Until we share an equal voice, we believe ‘anonymous is a woman’.
From the unsung heroes of our past to the high profile trailblazers of today, we believe in women. In the ‘bold spirit’ of the women whose stories we tell, we create innovative work which fills our audiences with wonder.
It Is Now
Touring Spring 2019
Feb 13th - Mar 31st
30th of July 1966, a date that would go down in history; when two sides collide, a day filled with ‘A Groovy Kind of Love’, as you are invited to the wedding of Laura and Joe.
Whether you’re on the side of the bride or the groom, of England or (dare I say it?) Germany, you can expect to join them for a raucous evening of laughs, romance, drama, and the sounds of the swinging sixties.
2nd Feb - 17th March
Bad date? Me too.
Meet Lou in the Vaults bar, they’ve got some thoughts about this date they went on.Join Jaz in the smoking area for a catch-up and let them explain. How about seeing it with your own eyes?
This voyeuristic theatrical experience explores the rituals and minefields of dating in a post #metoo era. Who do we have faith in when one party believes it’s sexual misconduct, and the other, simply a bad date?
Anonymous Is A Woman Theatre Company (AIAWTC) was founded by two Drama Centre London Graduates, Bips Mawson and Leila Sykes as a response to women's underrepresentation in society, history and thus in theatre. We are feminists in the sense that we believe in equality between the sexes. The company works with artists of all genders, our team has grown through our fantastic associate artists who reflect this and our work is female-centric only in our choice of subject matter. Through our gender equality night 50/50 we give a platform to hundreds of emerging artists who share our ethos. Whatever the project and whoever we are working with we strive to operate with the ‘feminine’ values of generosity, compassion and discipline.
