50/50 returns to Pleasance for its sixth incarnation!
Monday 8th April 2019 @ 6pm and 8.15pm.
50/50 is a performance night presenting scenes from new and established artists who are exploring all things gender-related, with an equal balance of male-to-female performers. It features a mix of comedy and drama in the forms of new writing and re-worked classics, devised pieces, spoken word, physical theatre and stand-up.
The nights are a meeting and mixing of minds, backgrounds, experience and talent as our artists come together to perform, network, discuss and most importantly celebrate egalitarianism in theatre. We believe there should be a 50/50 gender balance in casting on stages everywhere.
Applications are now open!
Are you a writer, director, actor or producer looking to see your script or idea on the stage? We are looking for submissions of scenes that are concerned with, challenge or reinvent gender in some way. Your script/idea could be new writing, a devised piece or a reinvention of an existing work (for example, a gender-reversed scene from a well-known play).
We thrive off eclecticism - we want to hear from artists who perform drama, comedy, spoken word or songs, physical theatre pieces or dances, stand-up comedy or cabaret acts... as long as it all ties into our gender agenda! We will curate the night so that the casts are equally split men-to-women across the evening, but your scene could be all-male, all-female or something in between.
How To Apply
The first round is by written application. Please submit a description of your piece (500 words max) using the form below, by the deadline of Sunday 17th February at 6pm.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by Wednesday 20th February about meeting with us between the 4th and 6th March (audition day is currently pencilled for Monday 4th, 10am-6pm).
At the second round, we'd love to see or hear your piece. We'll make our final decisions on the ten successful groups and notify you as soon as possible. This will give at least four weeks before the performance date to organise rehearsals for your team, and get performance-ready.
N.B. Restrictions apply to the running time of scenes according to the size of your cast: monologues up to five mins, duologues up to 8 mins, 3/4 people up to 10 mins and larger casts up to 15 mins. We are often over-subscribed with monologues, so casts of two or more are more likely to catch our attention!
